Congratulations to our 2025 recipients!

Dr. Gil D. Rabinovici & Dr. William Seeley

The Potamkin family, in partnership with the American Academy of Neurology (AAN) and American Brain Foundation (ABF), would like to congratulate Dr. Gil D. Rabinovici and Dr. William Seeley, the 2025 recipients of The Potamkin Prize.

Dr. Rabinovici is an international leader in neurology at UCSF, specializing in the development of biomarkers and PET imaging to diagnose and treat Alzheimer’s disease. His pioneering work in amyloid and tau imaging has standardized clinical guidelines and directly influenced health policy and patient selection for therapeutics. This research bridges the gap between basic pathology and "real world" clinical decision-making for dementia patients.

Dr. Seeley is a distinguished neurology professor at UCSF who has spent over 20 years researching why specific brain regions and networks are vulnerable to neurodegeneration. By identifying the role of Von Economo neurons in frontotemporal dementia, his multidisciplinary work has transformed our understanding of how these disorders originate and progress.

The Potamkin Prize recognizes the achievements of scientific researchers who advance the diagnosis, management, and search for a cure for Pick’s, Alzheimer’s and related brain degenerative diseases. The award consists of a monetary prize, an emblematic medallion, and opportunities to share their research and findings.

The Results

Since establishing the award in 1988, Potamkin Philanthropies, in partnership with the American Academy of Neurology (AAN) and the American Brain Foundation (ABF), has bestowed millions of dollars to over 70 researchers, paving the way toward a series of groundbreaking discoveries.

The Future

By sponsoring continuous research within this field and providing funding to multiple scientists over decades, the Potamkin family aims to pioneer innovative research into potential treatments. We are proud of the work our recipients have done and eagerly look forward to the work scientists and researchers will continue to do.
